The Friends of Ostertalbahn working group organises special tourist tours for cycling and hiking enthusiasts, day trippers and railway fans through the scenic valley of Ostertal every year. Passengers can experience the original 1950s branch line and take a ride in refurbished locomotives and carriages on the 21 km long route between Ottweiler and Schwarzerden. Every year from Easter onwards the season of the museum railway begins, which can also be hired for charter trips. Interesting excursions into the region can be made from various stops along the route. Well-signposted cycling and hiking trails invite you to explore the wonderful landscape.
You can use the free Ostertalbahn cycle transport service.
The railway adventure trail Eisenbahn-Erlebnisweg with its six stations has been set up along the Ostertal line between Schwarzerden station and the valley bridge in Oberkirchen. Here, you can see the technical systems and railway structures. Information boards explain how former signals worked and tell the story of the construction and history of the facilities.
Days and times are organised around specific events and public holidays and are available from www.ostertalbahn.de
