In the Bostalsee lake are eels, trout, zander and hake. This rich stocking and the good water quality make the Bostalsee lake a popular fishing ground. You can angle from various areas at the water’s edge and also from a pedalo or a rowing boat.

To purchase an angling licence (day’s licence, week’s licence, holiday licence or year’s licence) you will require an official fishing licence. Angling licences can be purchased at the lake administration, the camp-site reception and in various other places. From the 01.01. to the 15.02. no angling is allowed in the fishing area Bostalsee lake.

An outdoor swimming pool with a good sandy beach and sun lawns in Bosen is partitioned by buoys into swimmer and non-swimmer areas. Swimming is only permitted in those areas for safety reasons due to sailing and surfing on the lake. Play areas, barbecue spots, showers, changing rooms and toilets are all there for your convenience. For children the new wave water slide offers pure fun.

The beach pool at Bosen features four beach-volleyball pitches, which can be used all year round. There are also opportunities for beach-soccer, beach-basketball and beach-handball. Every year the Saarland beach-volleyball championship takes place here.

Boat hire is located at the lake administration. Pedalos, electric and rowing boats can be hired there. The boat hire opens the 31th march at 2 pm, from 1st april it is open to the regular opening times.

The campsite between Neunkirchen and Bosen is within 5 minutes walk from the lake and offers 444 caravan sites (100m2 each), family and group camp sites for tents, as well as both caravans and tents for rent. 

Situated directly at the entrance to the campsite is a branch of the Gillen bakery with small supermarket. Here you buy oven-fresh bakery products, drinks and all groceries for the daily needs. The opening times are displayed on the site and you can request them at the reception. The same building also houses the restaurant and pizzeria"Bostalklause". The site  has two central  washing buildings with family baths available. The building Süd" also boasts an attractive sauna area.

The campsite offers a comprehensive range of recreation opportunities: boule, crazy golf, soccer, open air games, play area, multifunctional playing field and youth room with many possible activities.

On the eastern bank near Gonnesweiler on an area of about 90ha, a Center Parc with about 500 holiday homes and the necessary infrastructure will be formed until july 2013.

Barbecue areas can be found near the music pavilion and at the beach pool at Bosen as well as the barbecue hut on the festival meadow. Please remember to bring a cooking griddle and charcoal, please do not start fires in aluminium trays.

Situated directly next to the lake administration you will find the "Brasserie am See",which offers a wonderful lake view with 100 seats inside and a further 100 seats on the terrace. Buses are welcomed heartily. Telephone (06852) 896868.

The biggest beer garden of southwest Germany with 3000 seats is to be found at the beach pool Bosen. At the surfer base a kiosk offers light refreshments and snacks. Hotels and restaurants in the villages round the Bostalsee lake are renowned for their culinary delights.

In the entire area of the recreational centre Bostalsee dogs must be kept on a short lead. Please keep in mind that dogs are not allowed in the beach area and on the sun meadows for hygienic reasons. We would further ask you to use the bags from the dispensers provided for the dog toilet on the hike round the lake.

The art centre "Bosener Mühle"(Bosener Mill) is directly located at the lake and offers a diverse cultural programme all year round. The Road of Sculptures leads from St. Wendel to the Bostalsee lake. The sculptures "throne of love" and "requiem for the jews" stand directly on the circular path around the lake.

There are crazy golf courses on the camp site (12 holes, telephone 06852/92333) and in the recreation facility Neunkirchen (18 holes).

The Bostalsee lake is situated in the Naturpark (nature reserve) Saar-Hunsrück. About 12 ha of surface water in the southern area are classified as protected zone and are barred from water sports activities. The low-water area is a retreat for rare animals and plants.

Around the lake is ample parking provided for cars and buses. Parking is subject to charges throughout the year. We would ask our guests only to use the official parking areas.

The Bostalsee lake can be delightfully explored in the time between Easter and the middle of October by taking a boat trip (about 50 minutes) on the passenger boat »Bosi«. The ship has space for 60 seats on the sun-deck and further 60 covered seats. Landing sites are at the lake administration and at the reservoir dam. If you want to get to know the surroundings of the lake by bike, you can use the well sign posted Saarland trial network.

There is a bike hire point near the lake administration. You can hire a variety of bikes as well as go-carts for children and electro bikes (“e-velos”). Contact: tel.: 0171-4511425

Overnight parking facilities for camper vans with electricity and waste point are available at the parking lots of the campsite. 

Favourable wind conditions and an optimal infrastructure offer ideal circumstances for sailors and surfers at the Bostalsee lake. In the district sailing harbour are 210 water and 120 land berths available for sailing boats. Furthermore, the Landesverband saarländischer Segler e. V. (LVSS) (the Saarland sailing club) offers various water and land berths. The overall length of the boats is restricted to 8 m. During the season there are numerous regattas on the Bostalsee lake.

The playgrounds at the Bostalsee lake are particular magnets for children of all ages. While the grown-ups relax, the children can play to their hearts content on the play grounds at the music pavilion, at the beach pool Bosen or in the campsite.

Near the beer garden is a large outdoor trampoline, the Tramposaarium. For a small fee young &old can let off steam, more infos at:

The windsurfer base is at the water’s edge at Gonnesweiler. Here storage spaces for windsurf boards are available in the depot. The landing of windsurf boards is also allowed in the district harbour and at the Saarländische Landesverband. To be allowed to windsurf, you will need the basic windsurf licence.

The S.A.L.T. windsurf school is located on the Gonnesweiler bank. The offer starts with trial lessons, continues with weekend basic courses up to the advanced training course and covers the whole spectrum of windsurfing. Besides the basic courses, the internationally valid VDS-windsurfing basic licence can be obtained.

Brand new rigs by Gunsail and boards by BIC, F2 and Exocet are available to rent.

Diving is permitted in the Bostalsee lake. A training platform and a sunken boat offer ideal  opportunities for training. Before the dive please inform the  search and rescue team of the recreational centre Bostalsee at the boat rental point. Telephone: (06852) 90 10 33.

A trail of 6.8 km leads round the lake. There are a multitude of signposted walking trails leading through the region of Sankt Wendel, amongst others the panorama-trail Sankt Wendeler Land, the IVV (International People’s Sports Association) circular trails Sankt Wendeler Land or various culture and premium walks. The tourist information centre has maps and attractive all-inclusive offers with luggage transfer available.
