Mia-Münster-Haus mit Stadtmuseum in St. Wendel

The Mia Münster House, centrally located in the city center of St. Wendel, was opened in 1989. The ground floor houses the city and district library.
The library presents itself as a modern media center. Apart from conventional print media, this comprises audiovisual and electronic media. The library users can choose from a total of 50,000 books: Novels and non-fictional books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, newspapers and magazines as well as games and info brochures. Music friends can choose from 12,000 CDs and music cassettes (classic, rock/pop/jazz, audio books and children’s audio story books). Furthermore, there is a large assortment of DVDs with a choice of films ranging from feature films, documentaries, music and children’s films and operas. The first floor houses the city museum. There you can admire a permanent exhibition of the works of the artist Mia Münster who lived from 1894-1970 and was a native of St. Wendel. About 40 of the artist’s pictures and many works and objects of the regional art and cultural history are presented in the museum. Findings from the Roman times and a number of paintings from the Baroque period – depicting the regional saint and name giver of the city, St. Wendelin – are displayed in the historical department. The main topic, however, is the history of the 18th and 19th century, among others pastels by Nikolaus Lauer (1753–1824)  and artwork  by Philipp Jakob Riotte (1776–1856).

Furthermore, changing exhibitions can be admired in these rooms, mainly of artists from the Saarland and professors of the saarländischen Hochschule für Bildende Kunst (Saarland School for Fine Arts) and the participants of the “Straße der Skulpturen“ (Road of Sculptures), which begins in St. Wendel.
