Annually, the working group “Ostertalbahn” organizes touristic extra tours through the scenically attractive Ostertal for cyclists, hikers, day-trippers and railroad fans. On the 21 km long line between Ottweiler and Schwarzerden, passengers can experience travelling in the reconditioned locomotives and wagons of the 1950’s railway. The season of the Museum Railway, which can also be hired for charter trips, begins every year starting from Easter. At various stops along the route one can make interesting excursions into the region. Well-signposted bikeways and hiking trails invite to explore the superb countryside. One can make use of the free transport of bicycles service of the “Ostertalbahn”.
Along the Ostertal line, between the rail station in Schwarzerden and the bridge in Oberkirchen, the railroad adventure path was equipped with six stations. There, technical constructions and buildings of the railroad traffic can be looked at. Information boards elucidate the functionality of former signals and tell of the establishment and the history of the institutions.
